Assisted Living communities come in many sizes with varying scopes of care. In its simplest form an assisted living is in a residential setting where assistance with activities of daily living (ADls) is provided. The setting itself can be a home within a traditional neighborhood that serves around 6 residents, to a large facility that serves 100 or more residents. Depending on the environment the residents may be independent or in need of total care. Most Assisted Living communities will provide assistance with medications, transferring, showering, dressing and grooming. Hospice services can also be provided by a licensed hospice agency. In any case they should maintain a specific license to provide care and follow state specific regulations. Assisted Living is a non-medical service and falls between Independent Living and Memory Care.
