Memory Care is an extension of Assisted Living. The care provided is specific for residents who are in the middle to late stage of dementia. Dementia is the umbrella term for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Lewy Body, or a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life. Memory Care is often provided in a secured setting within a small home, attached to a large Assisted Living facility, or in a secure, purpose built facility. Programs that support memory care are driven by activities that help occupy the time of residents while providing meaning and purpose to their day. Additionally, the care staff will be given additional training for addressing the unique care requirements of memory care resident. A specific license is usually needed to provide this type of care.
